STUDY
ABROAD
During my junior year Winter Break, I was fortunate enough to study abroad for two weeks in Australia as part of a business-focused program. This immersive experience allowed me to engage directly with business professionals through company visits and networking events, gaining firsthand insight into Australia’s unique economic landscape and workforce culture. I had the opportunity to explore how Australian businesses operate, and I was struck by both the cultural differences and shared values within global commerce.

Outside of the professional setting, the program offered an incredibly well-rounded cultural experience. The trip offered a rich blend of cultural and recreational activities, wherein I visited museums, explored the iconic Sydney Opera House, and even attended a live show! We also toured vineyards, relaxed on some of Australia’s beautiful beaches, and visited wildlife centers where I was able to hold native animals. From kangaroos to koalas, every encounter added to the uniqueness of the trip. The combination of academic enrichment, business exposure, and cultural exploration made this study abroad experience not only enriching but deeply memorable—broadening my worldview and strengthening skills I’ll carry with me into my future career. This experience has quickly become one of the most impactful and multifaceted opportunities of my undergraduate career.

In addition to the cultural immersion, the academic and professional components of the trip were equally enriching. We had the opportunity to meet with leaders from a variety of industries, including an innovative biotech company and several of Australia’s fastest-growing startups. We engaged in business presentations, panel discussions, and Q&A sessions that gave us insight into the country’s evolving economic landscape and entrepreneurial spirit. One of the most impactful moments was a session with a local government leader, where we learned about policy-making, sustainability efforts, and Australia’s position in global trade. We also toured major sporting venues like Allianz Stadium and the historic Sydney Cricket Ground, which offered an inside look at how sport, business, and national identity intersect. On the historical side, we explored The Rocks district and toured Q Station, gaining perspective on Australia’s colonial past and its transformation over time. During our Great Ocean Road trip, we visited Port Campbell National Park—home to breathtaking natural landmarks like the Twelve Apostles—which was a humbling reminder of the country’s environmental richness. These experiences provided an in-depth, multifaceted understanding of Australia’s business, history, and culture, all while encouraging us to think critically, ask questions, and embrace the unknown.
