LEADERSHIP & INVOLVEMENT
Throughout the duration of my time at Texas A&M University, I have been involved in a number of organizations dedicated to mentoring freshmen, encouraging involvement in traditions, and recruiting fellow scholars to attend A&M. I participated in these organizations that aligned with my goals to support first-year students and stimulate connections with individuals who wanted to better themselves while pursuing in higher education.
TEXAS A&M NATIONAL SCHOLAR AMBASSADORS (TANSA)
Marketing Executive
TANSA is a crucial part in the recruitment of National Scholars. While there are many categories of scholars, TANSA aims to unite all of them through a variety of luncheons and one-on-one meetings for prospective students. During my time as a member, I have been a multiple time panelist, speaking about my A&M experience to rooms of over 100 individuals. A s Marketing Executive, I was in charge of merchandise design, organization of the merchandise committee, social media management, and website upkeep. TANSA has been a great opportunity to meet likeminded individuals like myself.
TEXAS A&M ARTS & SCIENCES HULLABALOO U
Peer Mentor
During my time as a Hullabaloo U Peer Mentor, I worked alongside faculty/staff instructor in a Hullabaloo U course for incoming students. Hullabaloo U is a course instrumental in helping first-year students with their social, academic, and personal transition to college. Throughout the fall semester, I met with students inside and outside of the classroom, providing insight to students about their personal and academic concerns. I engaged in one-on-one meetings with my students providing the necessary resources and information to allow them to be successful while studying at Texas A&M.
LATINO LOGRADORES
Mentor
The organization known as Latino Logradores, LatiLo, supports the success of first-generation Hispanic/Latinx/a/o students at Texas A&M by providing
mentorship, a family atmosphere, and resources that help them thrive in college. LatiLo serves as a student’s first connection where they can build long-lasting relationships, explore their culture,
build networks, feel empowered, develop holistically, and serve the local community.
I strongly believe in this organization's mission to assimilate first generation students, seeing as my parents are first generation and there were not many resources available to them like this, making my involvement all the more meaningful.
FIRST TO FINISH
Peer Mentor
Similar to Latino Logradores, First to Finish encourages peer mentors to connect with incoming and continuing first-generation students to help them build a strong foundation for their academic, professional, and social success. A s a peer mentor, I met with students weekly for study hours and engage in activities throughout the semester to foster a sense of Aggie pride. Peer mentors are responsible for communicating with students and ensuring participation. First to Finish is a very crucial part of many first generation students' success as it holds students accountable for their participation in the organization's activities and events and ensures that students continue to pursue higher education.
THE BIG EVENT
Job Site Leader/Participant
Texas A&M's Big Event is known as the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation. Each year, thousands of Texas A&M students come together to perform various acts of service for the residents of the Bryan-College Station community. A s a participant, I have been responsible for numerous tasks such as trash pickup, sweeping, leaf gathering, painting, and other outdoor maintenance. A s a job site leader, I was in charge of communication within my group, organization of meetup, pick up of tools, and ensuring completion of the project. My Big Event experiences have been so rewarding and I look forward to the event each spring.
UNIVERSITY HONORS
Scholar
Texas A&M's University Honors is a program that allows students to explore a broader, deeper, and more complex focus on learning. The Honors Program is available to those who complete an application requiring a GPA of at least a 3.5. Being part of Texas A&M's University Honors Program has been a great opportunity for me to continue to push myself as both a student and individual. The program has allowed me to have greater academic access, encourage growth, and provided me with the opportunity to pursue research within my major. While in the program, I am encouraged to partake in several honors-level courses, allowing me to go beyond the expected academic requirements.
